Since the 1990's the education sector in India has been undergoing a rapid transformation where private players and NGO's have increasingly come to occupy an important role within educational processes through Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) initiated by the State. These interventions have not only responded to the urgent need for our schools to address global standards and innovations within the world of education, but have also created new benchmarks for evaluating school success and learning effectiveness.

To address the issues of education in twenty-first century India, IBCI has shaped a series of conferences on quality education and the role of technology within it. These conferences uniquely brought together the two major players set into motion by the PPP—business communities and NGO's both of whom provide altering perspectives on the debate on quality education and together help participants create a vision of holistic education.

The Bangalore conference aimed at engaging similar ideas and activities within Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. The conference featured distinguished speakers from the governmental sector, such as the state project director for Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Mr. Tushar Girinath, and from non-governmental organisations such as Teach for India and India Foundation for the Arts. At these conferences, a number of noted speakers and progressive educators presented cutting edge technology for teaching in the new age learner world. Madan Mohan Rao (Author, consultant & Former communications Director, United Nations Inter Press Service bureau in New York) showed how a range of startups in India are addressing educational transformation, through gamification, cloud solutions, interactive e-books, test preparation and integration of classroom material with real world real-time case studies. Dr. Harish Chaudhry (Asst. Professor, Department of Management Studies – IIT Delhi) discussed the advantages of ICT as a tool for teachers, that could also track student progress across years, subjects, concepts and even teachers.

The Bangalore Conference was followed by two similar platforms in Hyderabad and Chennai, with the aim of extending the debates and discussions into other locales in South India.

  • Why EDUTPRO INDIA - 2020

It is difficult to predict the future. In our everyday lives, we implicitly assume that the "future will be like the present." So what will education be like in the year 2020? What should education be like in 2020?

EDUtPRO INDIA - 2020 is a confluence of educators, researcher's, solution providers, NGO's and policy makers to find possible solutions and answers to some of the most challenging, critical and relevant questions we face in education today.

We still educate our children through timetables, bells that mark periods of "fixed time", in a batch setting symbolic of Industrial age and use tools of the “Information age, in a Knowledge age.

Knowledge Age worker-citizens need to be able to locate, assess, and represent new information quickly. They need to be able to communicate this to others, and to be able to work productively in collaborations with others. They need to be adaptable, creative and innovative, and to be able to understand things at a 'systems' or big picture' level. Most importantly, they need to be to think and learn for themselves, sometimes with the help of external authorities and/or systems of rules, but more often, without this help.

A New mindset is required, one that can take into account the new meaning of knowledge, the new meaning of curriculum and the new meaning of learning.

Be at EDUtPRO INDIA - 2020 to be world class

  • Why Attend

For the Education fraternity today, it is a balancing act of keeping up with the latest technology and trends, increasing the accountability of their teachers and driving student achievement across the board all while budgets are being cut and resources continue to thin. It is essential that we look at innovative educators and thought leaders that are expanding technology, driving progress and utilizing resources creatively, for guidance during these challenging times.

EDUTPRO INDIA - 2020 is attended by educators and academicians not just for its world class content, speakers and showcase of solutions and technologies, but also to network and build meaningful relationships within the community.

EDUTPRO INDIA - 2020 is a exclusive, invite only conference envisaged by IBCI explicitly for senior level decision makers from the leading schools and Institutions who are directly responsible for fostering bright students and developing world class schools.

Force Motors, is the Pune based pioneer of the LCV Industry that gave India iconic brands like the Tempo, Matador, Minidor and Traveller. Over the last five decades it has partnered with leading global automotive names like Daimler, ZF, Bosch and MAN and through these associations developed comprehensive expertise in-house for design, development and production of the entire range of automobiles.

Force Motors is completely vertically integrated, making its own engines, chassis, gear boxes, axles, bodies, etc. for their entire product range. In 1958, the company started production of the HANSEAT 3-Wheelers in collaboration with Vidal & Sohn Tempo Werke Germany. Today, it manufactures a wide range of vehicles including Small Commercial Vehicles (SCV), Light Commercial Vehicles (LCV), Multi Utility Vehicles (MUV), Sports Utility Vehicles (SUV) and Agricultural Tractors.

The company was promoted by Late Shri N K Firodia - freedom fighter and pioneering industrialist. He gave the country two paradigms - the concept of 'low cost public transport' - the Autorickshaw (a word he coined that now finds a place in the Oxford Dictionary). Later the Tempo Matador was the first diesel light commercial vehicle in India. The word Tempo (a registered trade mark of Daimler) is now generic for any small goods carrier in India.

In 1987, the company set up a new plant at Pithampur in Madhya Pradesh, for the production of Tempo Traveller. This plant was designed and built to the specification of Daimler-Benz.

In 1999, fully aware of the strength of Force Motors, in terms of engineering infrastructure and capabilities Daimler asked it to set up a dedicated facility for assembling and testing engines for Mercedes passenger cars to be made in India. Till date Force Motors have supplied over 38,000 engines. This business has grown to a substantial size as axles (both front and rear) of the C, E S class passenger cars and the M and GL class SUVs made in India have also been added to the portfolio.

In the year 2003, Force Motors signed technology sourcing agreements with MAN for which payments were made upfront. On completion of the localization of the licensed technology and with the request from MAN, a joint venture was created forming MAN FORCE TRUCKS Pvt. Ltd to manufacture the full range of HCVs from 16t GVW to 49t GCW. It subsequently amicably exited the JV but still continues to supply the large 1300 Nm and 850 Nm gear boxes, under a technology licence from ZF Germany, as also the complete cabin for the trucks made in India and exported under the MAN brand.

In a move away from its long-established business, of being a Commercial Vehicle Maker, Force Motors entered the Personal Vehicles arena with a Sports Utility Vehicle the FORCE ONE in 2011 and an Extreme Off-roader Vehicle, the Gurkha in 2013.

In July 2011 Force Motors signed a license agreement with Daimler AG, for a comprehensive supply of product technology, for a premium Multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV). This is in addition to the on-going arrangement with MBTech Powertrain GmbH for sourcing technical assistance for engine installation, vehicle build quality, electronic refinement etc.,

The word 'Force' is not just the product of 'mass' and 'acceleration'. It reflects values of ethical business, strength in technology, in manufacturing and energy in product development. It is also the binding force in the close and mutually beneficial relations the company enjoys with its customers, dealers, suppliers and business associates.

    INTRODUCTION

ARCADEMIC SKILL BUILDERS are online games that offer a powerful approach to learning basic math, language arts, vocabulary, and thinking skills through incorporating the features of electronic arcade games. The games feature fast action, colorful graphics and a compelling arcade game format to motivate and teach students.

The ARCADEMIC SKILL BUILDERS programs stem from experience, systematic observations and research in attempting to understand student learning in school and social situations. This innovative approach incorporates the advantages of current game with educational technology to provide educators with a challenging, fresh approach to teaching and learning.

There is a Progress Chart that enables both teacher and student to observe changes in performance and that helps teachers make performance-based decisions about immediate and long-term curriculum needs. The collaboration between student and teacher offers the educator the opportunity to become the “manager” of student learning rather than the tutor. Most important is the fact that this approach allows students to participate in the decision making associated with their own learning. (NOTE: In the future we'll add features enabling you to save records, tailor content, and pinpoint student problem areas.)

The format of the Progress Chart and its use is an adaptation of a measurement system called Precision Teaching developed by Dr. Ogden Lindsley of the University of Kansas. Many of the features of the computer software reflect strategies encompassed in the precision teaching mode.

    RATIONALE

The rationale behind ARCADEMIC SKILL BUILDERS emerged as a challenge to make certain aspects of classroom instruction as effective in creating persistence and involvement as observed in video game players. The result is a program that incorporates the features of arcade games with educational content to obtain a high rate of learning through rapid and focused repetition, high motivational levels, excitement and involvement. Students must employ strategy under exciting circumstances to make rapid responses while being provided immediate feedback.

Success in learning usually means preventing the student from being discouraged by making too many mistakes. ARCADEMIC SKILL BUILDERS also emphasizes success; but success is reflected by improvement. Thus, high error rates are important in early stages of learning so that improvement is maximized. A preferred strategy in this program is to start students where they “aren’t”-- at a level where a considerable number of errors are made -- and then move back or ahead as their performance requires.

Meeting the needs of individual students is a consideration of the program; however, the emphasis is in making the student “want” to learn. These programs are designed to do that.

Philosophically, the games embrace research on learning dealing with ‘automaticity’ and ‘fluency.’ Automaticity is fast and accurate object identification at the single object level. Fluency involves a deeper understanding, and anticipation of what will come next.

Fluency impacts three types of critical learning outcomes:
    - Retention: the ability to perform a skill or recall knowledge long after formal learning programs have ended
    - Endurance: the ability to maintain performance levels
    - Application: the ability to apply what is learned to perform more complex skills in new situations.

These engaging educational games provide focused repetition practice that enables fluency to be achieved more quickly through structured, rapid, and disciplined responding.

The games and strategies for using the games provided in this program are best represented by three motivational features-improvement, fast action, and increasing levels of difficulty.

Improvement. Poor performance in these games is not viewed by players as failure but as a challenge to improve. Improvement comes through three means -- familiarity, feedback, and strategy. Immediate feedback enables the student to assess right and wrong answers. As the player grows familiar with the events, he/she is able to develop and implement strategies to reduce negative consequences and improve performance.

Fast Action. . Requiring a high number of responses in a short period of time is motivational and requires good performance. The individual has no time for interfering and distracting thoughts without serious penalty.

Increasing Levels of Difficulty. . With ARCADEMIC routine drill takes on an aura of excitement and challenge with the games and strategies that increasingly require the student to face a more difficult situation just as a goal is accomplished. Such a challenge leads students to maximum proficiency

In summary, the ARCADEMICS total approach is based on a philosophy that includes these principle points:

    - Students respond to challenge and errors can be viewed as opportunities to improve rather than as indication of failure. An unlimited ceiling on performance will help the student reach his/her maximum level of proficient performance.

    - Needed repetitious drill can be as fun and as stimulating as procedures and methods typically associated with the higher order aspects of learning.

    - Immediate feedback (through the Progress Chart) on the student’s responses facilitates improvement in performance. Teachers are better able to implement performance and instructional strategies

  • Panel discussion

Topic: How do we identify the requirements of "The Future Learners"? And use that understanding to define "The Schools of the Future".

    Panel Chair: Mr. Nandakumar Venkatraman
CEO, Ecole Mondiale World School, Mumbai

Constitution of Panel: The Panel will constitute 6 speakers, with diverse backgrounds. Members will comprise of "Industry Leaders", "School Trustees", " A representative from Higher Education" , "School Principal", and preferably an "Overseas Educator".

Background: We are living in very interesting times. Never before in the history of education, have we seen a deluge of changes being attempted by the Government, Education Boards and schools to bring themselves up to the demands on Learning by our current generation of learners. Ideas about the future matter in education. The assumptions we make about future challenges and opportunities shape all aspects of education - our ideas about what the curriculum should hold, our investment in technology and training, the conversations we have with children about their hopes and dreams. But what happens when our ideas of the future are in flux? What happens when the assumptions we make about growth, technology and globalisation are themselves debatable?.

Scope: The scope of this panel discussion would be to identify the requirements of the "Future Learners" and identify possible solutions for transformation or change in our classrooms and schools. The central theme should revolve around big ideas to bring about the change, but preferably stay away from the "Policy Issues". This would enable the audience, most of them Principals and Trustees with some key take aways from the discussion and ideas to ponder over for implementation at their schools.

Format: Members will begin by outlining a few ideas about the requirements they perceive to be important for the "Future Learners" based on their background, area of work and experience and their own observations, preferably backed with some anecdotal evidence. They will jointly identify a few aspects of these requirements , discuss and debate on some big ideas and the feasibility .

  • About School Brilliance Award(SBA)

The School Brilliance Award(SBA) envisions a successful school as a well-oiled machine, as well as a healthy organism, and will set benchmarks for best practices in the three prongs of managerial skills, academic quality, and community engagement. Beyond rewarding individual schools, the awards provide a unique and rigorous tool of self-analysis that can help schools consolidate their strengths and gain an understanding of their challenges. Unlike many other school awards that solely measure outcomes through school results, these awards engage schools in a process-oriented approach, where, reflecting educational assessment trends worldwide, a more holistic idea of educational experience and learning outcomes will be measured.

Whether your school is big or small, primary or secondary school, mainstream, government, aided, un-aided, or alternate school, the award application is an extremely useful tool for self-analysis. Each school that is shortlisted will receive detailed feedback and evaluation from field experts that allows schools to measure its successes and challenges, and think strategically about future directions.
